An Evening of Native American Dance: with Southern Slam Dance Group
On Saturday evening, September 23rd, 2017 at 7pm, The KiMo Theatre in Downtown Albuquerque will present the award-winning and internationally renowned Southern Slam Dance Group from Albuquerque's nearby Zia Pueblo.
Flutist, lead singer, and founder of the group, Steven Toya Sr., will lead a select group of over a dozen drummers, singers, and dancers from his extended Pueblo family during a two-part 90minute program designed for families and audiences of all ages. Admission to this Signature Event in the KiMo's 90th Anniversary Celebrations will be FREE to the public. Doors will open at 6:30pm.
Ceremonial blessing songs and prayers were a significant feature of the grand opening festivities at the KiMo Theatre on September 19th, 1927. Southern Slam will drum and recite sacred prayers at their KiMo performance asking for the continued preservation and programming success of one of New Mexico's most distinguished landmark theatres.
