We're switching it up this month! We will viewing the film «Salt of the Earth» in preparation for International Workers Day (May Day) which is May 1.
NOTE: We will begin at 5:30 so we can get food/snacks and settle in. The movie will begin promptly at 6 pm. There will also be a discussion after the film. We will also run a children's movie (in the next room) so they can join in on the fun!
For those who haven't seen the film, which was banned during the Red Scare in the 1950's, here's a description:
«At New Mexico's Empire Zinc mine, Mexican-American workers protest the unsafe work conditions and unequal wages compared to their Anglo counterparts.
Mexican workers at a Zinc mine call a general strike. It is only through the solidarity of the workers, and importantly the indomitable resolve of their wives, mothers and daughters, that they move toward triumph.»
Please join us as we celebrate and lift up the power of workers!
Childcare and food will be provided.
