Sashiko is a traditional Japanese form of decorative reinforcement stitching that literally translates as “little stabs”. It has been used to reinforce areas of wear and to repair tears for hundreds of years. In this workshop you will learn the basic stitches used to create beautiful repair work for your well loved and worn out denim, using just needle, thread, and a backing fabric. Stencils and fabric pencils help create the design and guide your embroidery stitches.
Please bring in your ripped jeans or jean jacket with the holes in the elbows to repair in class. Fabric and materials will be provided if you just want to learn the techniques before starting on reinforcing and repairing your own (or others!) clothes.
